According to Pomiferous, a wonderful fruit ID site, there is much speculation about its origins and some sources have suggested that it may be one of the Old World pearmains, possibly dating back to the years 1200 and brought to North America in the early 1700s as pips. It is fine-grained and crisp, and once mature, sweet and juicy. Pick late and store for up to 3 months, for best flavour let the apple mature in storage.
